Channel 4 showing in 3D this autumn

4_logo2-150x150 Channel 4 is going to make the leap into 3D broadcasting this autumn, with a selection of 3D shows rendered in ColorCode technology. Channel 4 has partnered up with Sainsbury’s, so you’ll need to head to your local supermarket this autumn if you want the 3D specs. Read on for more details.

Channel 4 is kicking off a whole season of 3D footage. The schedule will include Darren Brown’s 3D Magic Spectacular and a compilation of The Greatest Ever 3D Moments – presumably there aren’t enough to fill a top 100 quite yet.

For the older crowd, there’s going to be a special, two-part series of The Queen in 3D. Nope, Freddie Mercury won’t be sharing your sofa with you, but it’ll be Her Maj’ herself rendered in full three dimensional glory including rare footage from her 1953 Coronation and more recent stuff from this year’s Garter Ceremony held at Windsor Castle. We sincerely hope this paves the way for all future Christmas Queen’s Speeches too.

Although Channel 4 will beat Sky to the punch, it is using ColourCodetech for its 3D. ColourCode is relatively cheap in 3D terms and presumably lacks the depth of more sophisticated broadcasting techniques, but it will at least look vaguely normal if you’re watching without the required amber and blue goggles.
